My Craft Hero - 3KCBWDAY3

Today's post for the 3rd day of Knitting and Crochet Blog week is about our craft heros.  My craft hero is my grandma. I thought about other people who inspire me today with their color and techniques (Lucy-Attic24 or Kristin Omdahl) but then always came back to my loving grandma we came to call GG Bonnie.
GG Bonnie
I've talked before about how it was my grandma who first taught me to chain crochet. We loved it. We would make 'snakes' all the time with her. She knit, crocheted and quilted along with other various crafts. Each one of her grandchildren and great grandchildren were given either a crocheted blanket or quilt as babies. She always had crochet edged dish cloths in her house and lovely crochet doilies on each of her chairs and sofa arms.

When she passed away at age 93, I remember her oldest great grandchild, Renee, speaking at her viewing about how sad she was because GG Bonnie would have been so proud of how far she had gotten with her crocheted scarf. Grandma had taught a third generation to crochet only several months before.
I love my grandma, she is always with me and is not only my inspiration for my crochet but the person I most inspire to live my life like.

Spring Love - 3KCBWDAY2

Today is the 2nd day of the Knitting and Crochet Blog Week (3KCBWDAY2) and today's challenge was to create or set up a story with photography of our craft (crochet for me, thank you).  So without further ado, I give you "The Start" by Becky

Color Lovers - 3KCBWDAY1

Yay! Day one of the 3rd annual Knitting and Crochet Blog week! Do-ta-do! 3KCBWDAY1
Today's topic is color! I love this topic because I always considered myself a true lover of color and thought I was pretty good with color. For years anyone who came to my house knew that I was not afraid of using different colors all over.
But as I started to crochet more, I found that I was being very safe. I didn't use many colors in an item or I found myself coming back to more "Fall" neutral colors.
I don't understand it. I completely swoon and immediately am overcome with jealousy when I look around the blogosphere and see Lucy's items in her little Attic 24 or Sarah London's wool eater blankets.
But when I go into the yarn store, I see the beautiful colors and my mind just is overwhelmed. What goes with what? CanI really use that together? I blame my 12 years of Catholic school uniforms! I wasn't trained to put things together I tell you!

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
How about you? Do you go to your yarn store and stare at the beautiful colors and walk out safe like me or are you bold and fabulous and make me jealous?

Auntie Becky

Knitting andCrochet Blogging

Oh I'm so excited! I'm going to take part in the 3rd Knitting and Crochet Blog Week this year.
I've never done anything like this and I hope I can get in all 7 days. I'm going to start ahead of time and I hope this stretches my blogging abilities a bit.

Have you ever participated in something like this? I hope you enjoy the posts as much as I do.

Spring Craft Fair - Afternoon Edition

It's been a little slow today but I finally made a good sale of 3 items. I may have figured out what my next big Fall item is going to be; my turtle! Who knew?

And it begins :)

Have I been too quiet lately?

Seems that I tend to go quiet just before a craft show. ;)

This weekend is only my 2nd one and I now have great respect for those artists who do more than 3 - 4 shows a year. How do they do it? Just getting the inventory ready means I'm working on something every weekend for hours and hours and every single night till late. Then there's the mad dash the 2-3 weeks before making sure my set up is good. My hubby is great and helps me with all kinds of things. Here's part of the mock up we did in the garage last weekend.

I'll post some pics of the craft fair tomorrow and tweet some as I'm there. Have a great weekend everybody. Wish I could see you there!

Beautiful Spring Day Outing

My gorgeous daughter is in town from Oregon this week (squeel!!!) and we all went to our local state park to sit in the sun, listen to the creek and enjoy a day outdoors. It was lovely. Quiet and calming. Best part; I could still crochet! It's one of the very best things about crochet; you can take it wherever you go.

I love making Lion Brand's Bear In A Jif pattern. It's very easy to make and you can make the pieces anywhere, then wait to stuff it when you can.

Do you have a pattern that you like for that kind of 'portability'?

And a discussion for another day... Do you have a favorite bag to carry it all in?

Scraps and Spring

It's only the beginning of March and it's beginning to look a lot like Spring is here in our front yard.  Our daffodils and crocus are blooming and the birds are chirping.

Wait. What?  The birds are chirping?  Augh!  I just emptied my cut-off scraps into the trash!  Why did I do that?  Those poor little mommy and daddy birds were probably looking to make some comfy nests and I just threw away some beautiful little bits of yarn they would have loved to incorporate into their new home.

Well, I couldn't just sit there thinking of the itty bitty little new birdies being brought into the world without something warm and snugly in their nests so I grabbed it bit of left over yarn and ran outside.  I cut up some small bits and draped it over tree branches and flowers and our large bushes on either side of the garage where I know a couple of chickadee's nest each year.  Ahhh.  The world is in balance this morning again.

How are you?  Have you ever thought about tossing your bits of scraps out for the birds?
